OpenAI Introduces o1: A New AI Model with Advanced Reasoning Capabilities

  • OpenAI has just released two new models, o1-preview and o1-mini, claiming they can perform reasoning through complex tasks and solve more difficult problems than previous science, coding, and math models.
  • OpenAI has trained these models to spend more time thinking about problems before responding, trying different strategies, and correcting their own mistakes, much like humans.
  • As early-stage models, the new o1 models lack some features available in GPT-4, such as browsing the web and uploading documents and images. Additionally, the o1 models are somewhat slow, with OpenAI claiming that the models take some time to reason through problems before responding.
  • ChatGPT Plus and Team users can select the o1-preview and o1-mini models from the dropdown menu at the top of ChatGPT starting today. The o1-preview model is temporarily limited to 30 messages per week, while the o1-mini model is limited to 50 messages per week.
